Goan Fish Curry

We both love Pomfret just like anything. Whether it's a Pomfret Fry, Tandoori Pomfret or Pomfret Curry they all are finger licking good.

The recipe which I'm going to share today is a very popular dish called as "Goan Fish Curry". In Goa Pomfrets are commonly known as Pamplet. There are several curries which can be made by this delectable fish but this recipe is very common in Northern parts of Goa.

This fish curry is bit spicy so it's commonly served with steaming hot rice. So, let's start with the recipe:

Ingredients:

For Marinating:

1. Pomfret (cut into halves): 2
2. Turmeric Powder: 1 tbsp
3. Salt to taste
4. Lemon Juice: 1 tbsp

Spice Paste:

1. Coconut (scraped): 1/4 cup
2. Dry red chillies: 3-4
3. Cumin Seeds: 1 tbsp
4. Coriander Seeds: 1 tbsp
5. Green Cardamoms: 3-4
6. Black Peppercorns: 7-8
7. Cinnamon Stick: 1 inch stick

For Curry:

1. Onions(chopped): 1/2 cup
2. Ginger Garlic paste: 1 tbsp
3. Tomatoes(chopped): 1 cup
4. Oil for cooking
5. Green Chillies: 1-2
6. Cilantro for garnishing

Method:

1. Wash and clean the fish pieces thoroughly. Pat them dry.

2. Marinate the fish pieces with the ingredients mentioned under "For Marinate" and coat the pieces nicely with the marinate. Let it rest for 15-20 mins.

3. In the meanwhile dry roast the ingredients (except the scraped coconut) mentioned under "Spice Paste. Let it cool down and make a fine paste of all the ingredients including scraped coconut. Add little water if required.

4. Heat oil in a pan on medium heat and fry the fish pieces from both the sides. Take the pieces out on a plate. Keep it aside.

5. In the same pan add more oil if required. Add the onions pieces and fry them until they become translucent. Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook it until the raw flavor is gone. Add chopped tomatoes and cook it until they become mushy.

6. Now add the spice paste and fry the mixture nicely. Cook it until you see the oil getting separeted. Once done add turmeric powder and salt. Add water as required and cook it for 5-6 minutes with covered lid.

7. Check the seasoning and adjust it as per your requirement. Add the fish fishes and cook it for 1-2 minutes.

8. When you're ready to serve take out the curry in the serving palte, garnish it with chopped chillies and fresh cilantro leaves. Serve it with steaming hot rice. Enjoy!!!
